Single Ticket to Final Mets Home Game
at Shea Stadium: $10,000
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
If you're a New York Mets fan - or even just a fan of baseball or baseball history - you can still get tickets to the final Mets regular season home game EVER at Shea Stadium. We found tickets going for as much as $10,000 each for the final game in Flushing Meadows (Queens), New York against the Florida Marlins on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
While that may seem pricey, there are lots of tickets available for much less. In fact, we've seen tickets for sale on the major ticket reseller sites for upper reserved seats (the cheapest seats we could find) for less than $120 per ticket. TicketNetwork.com had the cheapest rate ($109), followed by TicketsNow.com, StubHub.com, and RazorGator.com.
The New York Mets, founded in 1962, first played their home games at the Polo Grounds before moving into Shea Stadium in April, 1964. The stadium got its name from attorney William Shea. According to the official website of the Mets:
"The stadium was originally to be called Flushing Meadow Park but was later named for the popular attorney, William A. Shea, who spearheaded the drive to bring National League baseball back to New York following the departure of the Dodgers and Giants in 1957."
Shea stadium has hosted many notable events, including the Major League Baseball All-Star game in 1964, several NLCS and World Series games, New York Yankees home games in 1974 and 1975, the first New York Jets football game in 1964, an AFL Championship game, college football games, international soccer games, boxing matches, and numerous concerts including Simon & Garfunkel, The Police, The Who, Eric Clapton and Elton John, and The Rolling Stones. Shea Stadium has even hosted the Pope (Pope John Paul II in 1979).
We expect ticket prices for this final home game at Shea to rise as we get closer in time to the game. No single-game tickets are available for this game through the Mets website (there is a message that says all single-game tickets for this game are sold out), so it's going to be a seller's market. Of course, if the Mets make the playoffs (which isn't looking great right now), they would have more home games at Shea which, in turn, could bring prices down for the final regular season home series against the Marlins.
